When I was in elementary school, my teacher was a manicurist.
One day, she asked me if I wanted to work there.
“Yes,” I said.
“I think I’d like that.”
I started at the store.
Then I went to the pharmacy and got a prescription for my first manicure.
And I thought, Oh my God, this is great.
I’ve got the freedom to make something I want.
I wanted a manicures and pedicures business.
I had a feeling it was going to happen.
The first thing I did was get a loan for $2,500.
I got my own studio and went to work.
And when I started making manicures, I had so much freedom.
I could make my own color and style.
The manicure line has expanded since then.
I can do anything I want to make, even colors I don’t like.
I also wanted to get my own business.
That’s why I started the manicure store.
It’s a family business.
A lot of the stores are mom and pop operations.
We’re not big corporations, and we don’t have a huge office.
I didn’t have to be a billionaire to do this.
The money we make is reinvested in my business.
We’ve had over 100 customers come in, and it’s been a real hit.
There’s been no complaints about the products or prices.
When I get paid, I get $1.25 an hour.
It all comes back into the community.
I want everyone to know I care about them.
I feel very good about it.
There are a lot of young people in this community.
There is a lot that’s happening.
We need to keep doing it, and continue to make a difference.
